Inside The Cart | Why I’m Starting Inside Mission newsletter

When I was running a local magazine in the City of Mission, I loved shining a spotlight on our town. The businesses, the events, the people who make Mission what it is, but one thing always bothered me was timing.

Magazines take weeks to prepare, print, and deliver. By the time an issue reached people’s doors, so much had already changed. Events had passed, new opportunities had popped up, and the community was still left saying, “I wish I had known about that.”

I remember wishing I could update everyone in real time with “Hey, there’s a market this weekend,” “Don’t miss the concert downtown,” “A new café just opened its doors.” But print didn’t give me that option, so that gap never left me.

City of Mission deserves a way to hear about things as they’re happening and fast - not weeks later.

So I’m creating something new: Inside Mission newsletter.

Why? What's in it for everyone?

People want to feel included and they want to know what’s happening in their town before the photos show up online and the chance is gone.

But it’s not just for them, it’s also for me.

I’m building the Inside Mission newsletter because I want to feel more connected too. As a mom, a wife, and a business owner, I don’t always have time to chase through dozens of Facebook posts or rely on word of mouth. I want to know what’s happening in my own backyard, and I want to share that with others who feel the same way.

This newsletter also gives me a way to do what I love most: telling stories, bringing people together, and creating something that helps the whole community. It’s a space where my work supports my town, and my town supports my work in return.

Inside Mission isn’t just a newsletter; it’s how I get to keep shining a spotlight on the City of Mission while building a resource that makes life here a little easier, a little warmer, and a lot more connected.

The Vision - The First 12 Months of Inside Mission

Here’s my vision for the first year of its life in people's email boxes.

Months 1–3: Launch and keep it simple - weekly updates on events and a few local spotlights. The goal is consistency.

Months 4–6: Grow readership through word of mouth. Add seasonal guides (holiday round-ups, family-friendly picks).

Months 7–9: Feature more local businesses and begin special editions, like a spring or fall community guide.

Months 10–12: Establish Inside Mission as a trusted hub. By then, I see it becoming “the weekly check-in” people look forward to, something that belongs to the whole town, not just me.

For now, Inside Mission will be a simple weekly email: events, business spotlights, and updates. But I don’t see it stopping there. Over time, I imagine Inside Mission becoming a real community hub:

  • Seasonal guides (think: a fall festival roundup, a holiday market guide, summer events in the park).

  • Interviews with local business owners, not just what they sell, but the stories behind why they do it.

  • Spotlights on hidden gems in Mission, those places you only hear about if someone tells you, but deserve to be known.

  • Family-friendly picks so parents can plan weekends without scrolling through endless posts.

  • One day, even community meet-ups or events where the people reading the newsletter actually connect face-to-face.

Where?

Right in your inbox.

No hunting through endless Facebook groups. No scattered posts that disappear in a feed. Just one clean, simple weekly email that makes it easy to plan your week, discover something new, and feel plugged in to your town.

How?

Inside Mission is designed to be simple, transparent, and trustworthy.

It’s free to start.
Every subscriber will always have access to the weekly events calendar and community updates. That won’t change.

It’s community-driven.
Each issue highlights real faces and places in Mission, from family-run cafés to seasonal festivals, so readers feel proud of the town they live in.

It’s clean.
No pop-ups, no banner ads, no endless tracking. Just one email a week, written by a real person, focused on delivering value.

It’s reliable.
Delivered on the same day each week, so people know when to expect it.

It’s built with trust.
To start, all features will be chosen because they add to Mission’s vibrancy, not because someone paid for placement.

In the future, as the newsletter grows, I may offer clearly marked sponsored spots or premium features, but always in a way that respects the community, adds value, and keeps the core newsletter free.

What I’d Love You to Do

I promise your email is safe with me.
I won’t sell it or spam it with anything other than the newsletter.
